ネパールは公式にはネパール連邦民主共和国と称され、

四方を陸に囲まれた南アジアに位置する、世界で一番最近

民主化された国です。北側は中国、南・西・東はインドと

いう2大国に挟まれています。ネパールには、多様で豊かな

地形・文化そして宗教があります。

北に位置するヒマラヤ山脈には世界トップ10峰のうちの

8峰があり、もちろん世界第一峰のエベレスト

（ネパール名はサガルマータ）も含まれています。

ヒンドゥー教はネパールの中でも一番多くの人々の信仰を

集めている宗教で、他国に例を見ません。仏教はそれに

比べると少数派になりますが、仏教の始祖ブッダの

生まれた聖地のあるネパールとして歴史的に深い

関わり合いがあります。

Nepal, officially the Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal, is a land-locked country in

South Asia and, as of 2010, the world’s most recent nation to become a republic.

It is bordered to the north by the People’s Republic of China, and to the south, east and

west by the Republic of India.

 

Nepal is a country of highly diverse and rich geography, culture & religions. The Himalayas

in the north contain eight of the world’s ten highest peaks including the highest, Mount

Everest – (known as Sagarmatha in Nepali). Hinduism is practiced by a larger majority

of people in Nepal than in any other nations. Buddhism, though a minority faith in the

country, is linked historically with Nepal as the birthplace of Lord Buddha who gave birth

to the Buddhist tradition
